Islamabad: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has dropped the name of Makhdoom Shahabuddin as contender for the slot of prime ministerĀ hours after theĀ Army-led Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) got non-bailable arrest warrants for him from a Judicial Magistrate.
He was the prime candidate with two covering contenders of the PPPP for the slot of PM.
According to reports, name of Raja Pervez Ashraf has been finalized by the PPP top leadership.
A meeting of the coalition partners has also been convened to take them on board.
Raja Pervez Ashraf who has served as minister for water and power and information technology hails from Gujjar Khan district of Pumjab.
Earlier, the warrants for Shahabuddin were issued byĀ Judicial Magistrate Shafqatullah Khan following the end of deadline on which Qureshi was to appear before the army-led Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
The Supreme Court of Pakistan during the last hearing of Ephedrine case had also directed the ANF to arrest Shahabuddin.
The ANF had told the court that certain elements were creating hurdles in the investigation.
