Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued a formal notice barring Yousuf Raza Gilani from prime minister office and as a member of parliament hours after the Supreme Court’s verdict.
Gilani was disqualified as a prime minister on April 26, according to the notification.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan hereby issues notification of disqualification of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani as (a) member (of the) National Assembly of Pakistan with effect from 26.04.2012,” it said.
Following is the text of the notification issued today by Acting Secretary Syed Sher Afgan.
“No.F.8(14)/2012-Cord.- Consequent upon disqualification of Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani from being a Member of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan, vide Order dated 19th June, 2012 passed in Constitution Petition No. 40/2012 (Muhammad Azhar Siddique Vs Federation of Pakistan etc.) and other connected matters in terms of Article 63(1)(g) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on and from the date and time of pronouncement of the judgment of the Supreme Court dated 26.04.2012, the Election Commission of Pakistan hereby issues Notification of disqualification of Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani as Member National Assembly of Pakistan with effect from 26.04.2012 and in consequence thereof the Notification No.F.2(4)/2008-Cord. dated the 1st March, 2008 to the extent of declaring him as returned candidate from National Assembly Constituency No. NA-151 Multan-IV stands rescinded with effect from 26.04.2012.”
