Islamabad: Zahid Bokhari, lawyer for real estate tycoon Malik Riaz, told the Supreme Court of Pakistan to either order an inquiry into allegations against Arsalan Iftikhar by an investigation agency or form a probe commission like it did in memogate case.
A division bench of the apex comprising Justice Jawwad S Khuwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain resumed hearing a case revolving around allegations of wrongdoings of Arsalan Iftikhar and Malik Riaz on Monday.
Zahid Bokhari informed the court that his client wanted to appear before the court in personal and would return to Pakistan despite his illness.
Justice Khuwaja asked Bokhari that he could suggest his client to record his statement to him via telephone.”Court will consider measures if Malik Riaz doesn’t appear tomorrow,” he added.
The bench said two TV anchors Kamran Khan and Hamid Mir told the court about Arsalan took favours from Malik Riaz but it would be proved in a court of trial. “Trial court will establish whether it is a conspiracy”.
Arsalan Iftikhar was scolded by the bench when he interrupted saying he be given 5-minutes time as some television channels had discussed his family in talk shows.
The court asked him to sit quiet and say anything through his lawyer. However, the court ordered Attorney General to provide security to Arsalan as he feared Malik Riaz could inflict harm to him.
Arsalan said the CJ had expelled from his house and feared he might meet the same fate as that of Shahbaz Taseer and a son-of law of former high ranking military officer (both of them were kidnapped in mysterious circumstances).
