Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday announced its verdicts on elections expenses case, saying it is Election Commission’s constitutional mandate to hold elections according to the law.
A three-judge bench comprising of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez heard the petition.
The SC said that it was election commission’s responsibility to force the candidates to follow the laws.
The court observed that the commission should confirmed the voter lists by door to door campaign, adding that help of FC and Army could be sought in the campaign.
“According to the article 17 of the constitution it is every citisen’s right to participate in the election and try to come in government,” the court observed.
The court has also directed the commission to monitor election expenses of every candidate and should ban them to bring voters from homes.
