Islamabad: Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel at Benazir International Airport allegedly thrashed an official of Saudi embassy, sources said on Thursday.
The sources said that ASF officials thrashed Saudi military man and official of embassy Saeed Al-Shehri after exchange of hot words. The scuffle was reported when airport security officials stopped him for checking.
“The official, who has to travel to Saudi Arabia via flight SV 732, was stopped at the airport as his seat was not confirmed,” they said adding that the matter was later resolved after the intervention of Secretary of Defence Nargis Sethi.
Defence Secretary summoned DG ASF and sought report into the incident within 24 hours.
Saudi ambassador to Pakistan, after the incident, reached at the airport.
ASF sources said the man was not the official of Saudi embassy, adding that he was here for military course, while on the other hand, sources in the Saudi Airline said that the military man is member of Saudi embassy.
“An high-level inquiry has been launched regarding the matter,” they said.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Former Minister for Defence Ahmed Mukhtar condemned the mishandling by ASF officials and assured Saudi ambassador in the country regarding the fair probe into the matter.
