Peshawar: Jamil Afridi, a brother of Pakistani doctor Shakil Afrid who helped CIA trace al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and sentenced to 33 years in prison, has termed the punishment one-sided.
Speaking at a press conference on Mondar, Mr Afridi said that his brother was punished during a sham trial as the incident took place and he was handed down sentence in tribal area.
Jamil Afridi said that Dr Shakil Afridi had committed no crime and was being made escape goat with regard to Osama bin Laden’s presence in the country.
He said that Wajid Shamsul Hassan, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in London, spoke of bin Laden’s presence in the country.
He said that had Mr Afridi committed any crime against the state, he would have escaped the country as he had US visa. Shakil Afridi stayed in the country several days before his arrest.
