Liverpool, England: Liverpool revenged themselves on Chelsea for their FA Cup final defeat to the latter with an impressive 4-1 win at Anfield.
The dramatic episode ends the Blues’ hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Liverpool scored three times in nine minutes through a Michael Essien own goal (19th minute), Jordan Henderson (25th minute) and Daniel Agger (28th minute) to take a control of the game at the very start which stretched to the end. Stewart Downing missed a penalty to make it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Liverpool made four changes from their team, with captain Steven Gerrard absent from the squad but Wembley goalscorer Andy Carroll returning to the line-up.
In the 28th minute, Carroll headed down a corner for Daniel Agger to nod in from close range.
Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo chose against making any changes at the break and his faith in his players was rewarded in the 50th minute when the Ramires scored the only goal for Chelsea.
A Turnbull mistake on the hour did allow Liverpool score the fourth goal in the 61st minute to desperate the already unhappy Chelsea.
