Lahore: Only days after Britain’s envoy Adam Thomson hoped that the English team would visit Pakistan soon, yet another diplomat in Pakistan uttered the same sentiments.
This time it was Australia’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Timothy George who, while talking to media here, said that Pakistan and Australia had deep-rooted sporting ties, and Australia wanted to play in Pakistan as well.
“On the field Australia and Pakistan have always been friendly rivals. Australia want to play with Pakistan and both teams will face each other in Sri Lanka later this year”, said Timothy George
“Appointment of Dev Whatmore as the coach of the Pakistan Cricket team is an honour”, added Tim George
Earlier the British High Commissioner in Pakistan, Adam Thomson also wished for the end of the international cricket drought in Pakistan sooner than later.
He also hoped that the England cricket team would visit Pakistan soon.
The Australian High Commission also praised the efforts put in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Zaka Ashraf, for the betterment of the game and to bring international cricket back to Pakistan.
While welcoming the remarks of the Australian High Commissioner, the PCB Chairman termed it a reflection of the sentiments of the Pakistani cricket enthusiasts.
Pakistan has not been able to host an international cricket event since March 2009, after a deadly attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team in Lahore.
Recently the Bangladesh Cricket team’s short trip to Pakistan was also postponed indefinitely due to a writ petition filed at the Dhaka High Court against the tour.
