Karachi: NUML (National University of Modern Languages) Karachi Campus observed ‘to mark the 448th birthday of the eminent English playwright William Shakespeare, who still remains unequalled in his literary achievements.
The programme itself was a tasteful medley of literary aestheticism. The last act of Shakespeare’s revenge tragedy ‘Hamlet’ stole the show with a scintillating performance by students of the English Department. Another unforgettable episode was the modern day version of Shakespeare’s immortal romantic tragedy ‘Romeo & Juliet’. This performance was appreciated by the audience because the theme of love & romance is ageless and was well projected by the NUML students.
The ‘Shakespeare Day’ programme became a convenient platform for literary intellectuals from the University of Karachi, Hamdard University, Fatimiyah Education Network and DHA Education Services to merge in what proved to be an intellectually stimulating event.
The Chief Guest was Prof. Masood Amjad Ali, former Chairperson, English Dept. University of Karachi. Another prominent guest was Prof. Shamim Akhtar. Other noteworthy visitors included Prof. Abdul Aziz, who is Director, Humanities Dept. Hamdard University, Asma Ansari, former In charge of PACC & literary and television personality Akbar Subhani.
