Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed an application of former ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani, seeking permission for recording his statement through video link against the orders of the memo commission which asked Haqqani to personally appear .
An SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case. The bench upheld the orders of memo commission.
Haqqani’s counsel Asma Jehangir argued that his client should be given same facility of video link that was previously given to Mansoor Ijaz who was even not a Pakistani.
She said that Haqqani was ill and was also facing threats.
The CJ said that court respected Haqqani as he was an honorable and patriotic Pakistani while it didn’t know Mansoor Ijaz.
Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jailani said that Haqqani should return Pakistan as he had submitted sworn affidavit to the SC that he would be available on four-day notice.
