Sydney: A study revealed that workers doing job in stressed and unsatisfactory environment are more likely to develop backache than those working vice versa.
An associate professor of University of Western Australia found that almost 30 per cent of the total people studied with slight pain went on to develop daily back pain that severely affected their jobs.
“Everybody has non-specific lower backache but we are concerned about people with continuous non-specific pain for weeks at a time, which has major socio-economic and personal costs,” the university’s statement quoted him as saying.
“Once people stay at home on sick leave, it gets harder to go back to work and the pain gets worse. It’s a vicious circle that needs to be broken,” he added.
