Islamabad: Director General Intelligence Bureau (IB)Aftab Sultan appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan as the apex court summoned him on a short notice to seek his reply over the allegation that the IB disbursed money to topple Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government in Punjab.
Sultan sought some time to file a reply, saying that the distribution of money could not be confirmed through record.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that according to a news item published in a local English daily the money was distributed by then IB chief Tariq Lodhi.
Mr Sultan told the court that Lodhi was in London while audit record didn’t mention aim of disbursing of secret fund. He said that a register containing secret funds record was yet not available.
The CJ asked him to check the account record and inform the court whether the amount was withdrawn or not.
The court also directed the DG IB to submit his written reply on the next hearing and adjourned the hearing till April 27.
