Ottawa: United States (US) Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said that the Afghan war cannot be determined on the basis of the surveys, media reported on Tuesday.
Talking to media the defence secretary said that if the wars were fought on the basis of surveys then it could create deep trouble.
Speaking regarding reaction after Afghan killings Panetta said that Nato forces should concentrate to carry out their mission in Afghanistan instead of concentrating on the people’s reaction regarding killings.
“We have to adopt a better strategy in order to accomplish our mission in Afghanistan,” he said adding that our soldiers were fighting in Afghanistan for the sake of US sovereignty.
Panetta further said that there is no question that the American people are tired of war. But, he said, the public understands the U.S. is engaged in Afghanistan because of the attacks on Sept. 11, and to prevent al-Qaida from again finding safe havens there to launch attacks.
It is to be mentioned here that a survey on Monday revealed that around 69 percent of the Americans were against war in Afghanistan which shows an increase after the incidents like killings of civilians by US soldier and Quran burning at Bagram Air base.
