Lahore: PIA has filed a Law Suit No. 232/2012 against Transparency International Pakistan and 17 others for permanent injunction in High Court of Sindh at Karachi for restraining continuing malicious and baseless campaign regarding purchase of five aircraft from Boeing Company.
The next hearing of the case has been fixed for March 29, 2012. Mr. Rasheed A Rizvi, Senior Advocate Supreme Court will appear on behalf of PIA.
The Plaintiff Pakistan International Airlines Corporation has pleaded that Defendant No.1 Messrs. Transparency International in connivance with other defendants has launched a campaign against PIA maligning and defaming the same by claiming that the deal between Boeing Company and Plaintiff is “shady” and in violation of procurement laws and that the same had no approval of PPRA. It is pertinent to mention that the representatives of Plaintiff time and again clarified the so called allegation of defendant No. 1 such allegations raised are incorrect, malicious and baseless. But despite that the defendants continued their malicious campaign and have threatened to continue unless the deal is called off.
The Managing Director of the plaintiff (PIA) also appeared before the Senate Standing Committee of Defence and Defence Production and clarified every aspect of the transaction, where after the said Standing Committee appeared to be satisfied for the transaction under reference. That the Defendant No.1 (Messrs Transparency International) in order to harass and malign the plaintiff approached the NAB and caused such news to published in the Newspapers of the Defendants No.2 to No. 8. The said campaign of maligning and defaming the plaintiff was launched by the defendants knowing well that the transaction entered into between the plaintiff and the Boeing Company was in most transparent manner and strictly in accordance with Rule 42 ( c ) of the Public Procurement Rules 2004.
The law suit further stated that in views of the facts, circumstances and grounds stated herein above the defendants are required to be restrained from continuing the malicious and baseless campaign regarding purchase of five aircrafts, Model Boeing 777 ER from the Boeing Company. That the past conduct of the defendants proves the fact that they are bent upon causing harm and injury to the good name of the plaintiff (PIA) hence this suit for perpetual injunction. —
