Washington: American Senator John McCain urged the United States to carry out air strikes on President Basharul Assad’s forces to protect the people of Syria, media reported on Monday.
According to a media report, Mc Cain said that the ultimate goal of air strikes should be to establish and defend safe havens in Syria, especially in the north, in which opposition forces could organize and plan their political and military activities against Assad.
Meanwhile, the Canadian government has closed its embassy in Syria due to ongoing violence.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird made the announcement on Monday where he condemned a continuing blockade against humanitarian aid preventing it from reaching citizens in the besieged city of Homs.
Earlier, the US and United Kingdom (UK) had closed their embassies in Syria.
