Antananarivo: At least 65 people were killed and several injured when a cyclone hit Madagascar’s southeast shores, media reported on Tuesday.
The report states that quite a few people were left homeless after Cyclone strike southeast of the island.
Cyclone Irina struck land on Monday, bringing rain and high winds. The storm tore roofs off houses, damaged buildings and trees, and caused power cuts in the country.
Madagascar is prone to cyclones and tropical storms, especially in the rainy season from February to May.
In 2008, Cyclone Ivan smashed Madagascar, killing more than 80 people and leaving over 200,000 homeless.
