Karachi: Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) and Medical College is holding 7th LNH Medical Symposium from February 24 to 26 with the theme of ‘Saving Patients; Protecting Doctors’.
Chairman Symposium Committee Dr Shakil Aqil, along with Secretary Dr Salman Sharif, Medical Director LNH Dr Salman Faridi and Dr Ishrat Saleem announced this while highlighting the salient features of the multi disciplinary symposium at pre event media briefing at Convention Center LNH.
However, the training workshop in various fields of medicine will start from 19th February followed by scientific sessions in various disciplines of medicine.
The scientific session on Saturday and Sunday included cardiology, brain tumor, neurology, gastroenterology, urology, oncology, chest medicine, gynaecology, plastic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, pathology and others.
A part form this, discussion on medical ethics of termination of pregnancy and saving patients & protecting doctors would also be held in plenary sessions.
Dr Ishrat said the LNH is contributing to health sector and medical education. He said the activities would start from today, (Sunday) however, the main symposium would begin on Feb 24.
He said doctors are the assets of the society and no body wants to destroy their assets. He recalled that the last year symposium has yielded fruitful results which was gauged by the feedback given in this regard.
As many as 28 workshops are planned in this symposium which are also beneficial to common people for life support.
Dr Shakil Aqil said LNH left no stone unturned in providing optimum health care at reasonable price to patients.
Though a number of seminars are being organized time to time in LNH, but the symposium is a mega event of the hospital which attracts delegates not only from the country but other parts of the world, he noted.
He said the people should understand the difference between negligence and compilations in case of patient’s death and there should not be media trail or people trail of doctors without their fault. He added that the young doctors are reluctant to work in emergency due to aggressive attitude of the people in any unpleasant incident.
Dr Salman Faridi shedding lights on the LNH, said this is stare-of-the-art hospital. He said the hospital is not only well equipped with the modern technologies but also highly qualified doctors which are back bone of any standardized hospital.
He informed that 125 consultants are serving in the hospital who are trained from UK, Europe and Pakistan.
He announced that Research Development Center would be inaugurated in the symposium which would be state-of-the-art center.
Replying a query, he said Rs 50 million set aside in charity for underprivileged patients while in general the treatment is provide at subsidized rate.
