Karachi: Police used tear gas and baton charge and have arrested dozens of protestors including Fauzia Siddique and President Pasban Altaf Shakoor when thousands of protestors tried to march towards US Consulate against imprisonment of Aafia Siddique on Friday.
Many of the participants of the rally were injured, including women, while police arrested dozens protestors. The rally was to march towards the US Consulate through the Abdullah Haroon Road to register a protest.
The detainees were shifted to Artillery Police Station and further action would be taken against the protestors.
The clash between police and protestors resulted severe traffic jams and roads near Abdullah Haroon Road and Saddar.
The protest was arranged by Aafia Movement and Pasban to protest against 86-year imprisonment of Dr. Aafia Siddique in US.
Spokesman of Aafia movement criticized the incident and said that the police was beating the demonstrators who participated in the Rally in favor of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui outside US consulate. The spokesman said that lots of people have got injured due to this unexpected action taken by the police.
Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui has been released but she is severely injured. While talking to press she stated these obstacles cannot stop us to ask for our rights. We will keep raising our voice till our last breath. She further said it looks like a Killing attempt on me but i m not afraid.
