Kabul: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar on Wednesday called on Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
According to The News Tribe correspondent, both the dignitaries have discussed relation between both the neighbouring counties, adding that matters of afghan security were also came under discussion.
Hina Rabbani Khar was due to meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai on a one-day visit to Kabul Wednesday aimed at warming frosty ties between the two neighbours.
“This visit will mark a new cooperation phase between the two countries,” Afghan foreign ministry spokesman Janan Mosazai told reporters ahead of what will be Khar’s first visit to Afghanistan since taking office in July.
According to a Joint Communiqué‚ issued from Islamabad and Kabul simultaneously: “The two sides held in-depth consultations to work out a programme of enhanced engagement for promoting bilateral cooperation in diverse fields, re-affirmed the historical, cultural and religious bonds of friendship that exist between the two the countries and their peoples, reiterated commitment to steer bilateral relations in accordance with the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, mutual respect and the UN Charter, agreed that a strong, robust and independent bilateral relationship would greatly contribute to peace and stability in the region and emphasised the need of working together towards enhanced bilateral engagement for deepening interaction in diverse fields including security, development, transit, trade, economic and investment linkages, infra-structure and energy connectivity and people to people contacts for harnessing mutual benefits.”
Her visit coincided with the leak of a classified NATO report, saying insurgents get support from Pakistan.
Khar called on Afghan President Hamid Karzai and discussed Pak-Afghan relations.
Karzai told Khar that his country wanted better relations with Pakistan and expansion of cooperation in different fields.
According to the Pakistan’s Foreign Office officials, the foreign minister said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan and it would continue to extend every possible assistance for the development of Afghanistan.
She said Pakistan respects Afghanistan as an independent and sovereign country.
Earlier, Khar also held separate meetings with chief of Hizb-e-Wahdat Ustaad Haji Mohaqiq, Jumbish-e-Milli leader Faizullah Zaki and Opposition Alliance’s Tajik leader Younis Qanooni in Kabul. Talking to reporters in Kabul, she said Pakistan will extend support to any reconciliation process that will be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned.
