Islamabad: The Petroleum Ministry has decided to impose 10 percent development surcharge on CNG from February, Secretary Petroleum revealed during a briefing to National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources.
The committee, which met here with MNA Talib Nakai in the chair, also discussed LNG import project.
Secretary Petroleum said that people had been held hostage by transporters, who were charging them excessive fares despite shift their vehicles to CNG from diesel.
The secretary defended Petroleum Minister Dr Asim for revealing price hike, saying the price formula was already on OGRA’s website.
He warned that if the situation remained unchanged, the gas crisis would also hit the country next year. Regarding the LNG import project, he said that the project was delayed due to buyers refusal to import the gas at $18 per MMBTU. He said that LNG import will take one year to be materialized, adding that as per schedule LNG was to be imported by May/June this year.
