Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that he received a letter from Mansoor Ijaz two days ago.
The CJ disclosed this as a larger bench of the apex court headed by him took up a plea filed by memo commission secretary, seeking more time to probe the matter.
During the hearing the chief justice said after reviewing the letter he decided to seal it. “I don’t know to what extent the information in the letter is reliable,” he remarked.
“We will decide letter how long the letter is to keep secret,” he said.
Asma Jehangir, Hussain Haqqani’s counsel, protested over the CJ’s decision to keep letter secret.
The CJ assured Mrs Jehangir that the letter would not be used in point of memo investigation.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court granted two-month time to the commission to complete its investigation.
