Islamabad: The Supreme Court has barred Election Commission of Pakistan form holding by election on polluted voters’ lists.
A four-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry gave ruling into petition filed by Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khand and others regarding bogus voters’ lists.
The court also granted time to 23 lawmakers who were elected in by election held on old voters’ list for verification from the parliament.
The court also ruled that by polls could not held in the absence of complete Election Commission after the passage of 18th amendment to the Constitution.
The court has also ordered that no by poll could be held on the basis of old voters’ list.
The CJ inquired whether it was possible to conduct fair election if the voters lists were bogus, adding that the attorney general had previously told the court that holding election in the presence of incomplete Election Commission was not appropriate.
He ruled that the apex court would not allow holding by elections on these lists.
