Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday offered his resignation during a meeting of coalition partners held at Prime Minister House Islamabad, sources said.
The source said the PM told the partners that he was ready to resign to save the system. “I did what I felt better,” the PM said.
“President Asif Ali Zardari Ali Zardari has also joined the meeting at the PM house,” sources said.
Sources said that the meeting, called by the government, was discussing on different options including Prime Minister’s resign, seeking apology from the SC and writing a letter to Swiss authorities to re-open graft cases against President Zardari.
Earlier, a seven-member bench of the apex court issued contempt of court notices to PM and directed him to appear before it on Jan 19. The notice was issued with regards to the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case.
