Islamabad: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the judiciary would not work under the doctrine of necessity and could not ignore issue of bogus voters’ list.
The remarks came during the hearing of Imran Khan’s petition pertaining to bogus votes in electoral rolls.
AN SC bench headed the CJ was hearing the case. He questioned the credibility of by polls held without the constitutional formation of Election Commission.
He ruled that the salaries and facilities to those who had been elected in by polls were unconstitutional. “Why the salaries shouldn’t be stopped,”.
The CJ remarked that they could raise objections on President Asif Ali Zardari’s oath under Abdul Hamid Dogar but they didn’t do so to avoid chaos in the country.
The hearing was put off till January 12.
