Brisbane: World No.4 and British No. 1 Andy Murray has overcome his injury during the match and beat Mikhail Kukushkin in the opening match of 2012 at the Brisbane international.fragile frame is causing him grief as he approaches the first grand slam of the season.
Murray rallied from a set down to beat Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 and will will meet Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller in the next match.
The tournament top seed appeared troubled by back and knee problems despite earlier claims he had arrived in Australia free from injury.
Kukushkin had Murray on the ropes early.
Kukushkin broke Murray twice and raced to 4-0 and 5-1 leads before Murray at last began to find his range, fighting back to 5-5 only to lose his serve and hand the first set to his opponent.
However, Murray slowly began to take grip of the match, breaking Kukushkin early and holding on to level the contest at one set apiece.
In the decider Kukushkin finally ran out of steam and a relieved Murray closed out the match to the delight of a packed centre court.
