New York: Google edged out Facebook to get the title of the year’s No. 1 Web brand, according to the list of 2011’s top destinations in digital released on Wednesday by Nielsen.
While Google landed in the top spot with 153.4 million average unique visitors per month, Facebook wasn’t far behind with 137.6 million. Yahoo took the title of No. 3 Web brand with 130.1 million unique monthly visitors. Microsoft’s MSN/WindowsLive/Bing fell in at the fourth spot.
YouTube was the No. 5 Web brand, boasting 106.6 million average unique visitors each month, while Microsoft itself took sixth.
Google may be the top internet destination for 2011, but Facebook retains its position as the top Social network over the previous year.
It was followed by Blogger at 45.7 million, and Twitter at 23.5 million.
Google+ sits in 8th place, with 8.2 million average monthly unique visitors.
Nielsen also listed the top five smartphone manufacturers. Apple was No. 1 with nearly a third of the market (29 percent), followed by HTC (21 percent), Research in Motion (17 percent), Samsung (11 percent), and Motorola (11 percent).
