Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to prepare a comprehensive report regarding the voters’ lists.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was hearing the constitutional petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan regarding voters’ lists. The court directed that late Benazir Bhutto’s application be also attached with the Khan’s petition.
Khan’s counsel Hamid Khan said that ECP was supposed to complete the voters’ lists by December 16, but it has not even tabulated the interim lists so far.
Chief Justice in his remarks said four retired judges and chief election commissioner are working in the ECP who are capable members.
He said that the preparation of electoral lists should not be taken easy and the task can be delegated to National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) if ECP failed to compile lists.
