Srinagar: A senior minister of Disputed Kashmir government Ali Mohammad Sagar escaped a bid on life in a militant attack on Sunday evening. He escaped unhurt in the attack, which left his security guard dead and two others injured.
Police sources said militants lobbed grenade and fired from sophisticated weapons towards the cavalcade of Law and Parliamentary affairs minister Ali Mohammad Sagar’s vehicle at Nawab Bazar in down town, some 5 kms from Lal Chowk on Sunday evening while he was returning after attending wedding ceremony of one of his relatives.
They said security guards of the minister returned the fire, triggering a brief encounter. “In the militant attack, three security guards of the minister sustained bullet injuries. One of them later succumbed to injuries,” they said.
They said the minister escaped unhurt in the attack. However, some reports said that the minister had sustained some minor injuries.
Immediately after the attack, police and paramilitary soldiers laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests were reported.
