Rawalpindi: A meeting of Pakistan’s top military commanders is underway amid reports of a strong backlash over Nato helicopters shelling on military check-post that led to killing of at least 25 officials and injuring 15 others.
The sources said that Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is presiding over the meeting to discuss the situation which triggered anti-American sentiments in the country over the cross border attacks despite country’s countless sacrifices during the so-called war on terror.
The South Asian country has stopped Nato fuel and other supplies to war-torn Afghanistan in protest against the attack. The Nato uses Pakistani route for its supplies to Afghanistan.
The sources added that the Nato might face unexpected response from the Pakistan’s powerful military which remains at the helm of affairs.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said Prime Minister Gilani had condemned the Nato attack and directed the office to take the issue before Nato and the United States.
Pakistan has also suspended Nato supplies for Afghanistan and a large number of containers and tankers were stopped at different check-posts from entering Afghanistan in protest against the deadly attack.
