Johannesburg: Australia has beaten South Africa in a nail biting match by two wickets in Johannesburg and level the series by 1-1 here on Monday
Australian players batted really sensibly and guided Australia to a critical win. Young Usman Khawaja was the highest scorer who made 65 runs while veteran Ricky Ponting revived his form in an important time and scored 62 runs. Both the batsmen sharing a 122-run partnership for the third wicket as Australia reached its victory target of 310 for eight wickets on day five for a 1-1 tie in the series.
South African fast bowler Vernon Philander provided two quick wicket to the Proteas and Khawaja and Ponting provided a solid stand. But Aussies dropped three quick wickets of Khawaja, Ponting and captain Micheal Clarke only for 24 runs.
After those dismissals Micheal Hussey, Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson gave the support to the Aussies for an outstanding win. They made 39, 55, 40 runs respectively
