Swat: Malala Yousufzai, a girl of Swat who wrote diary with a pen name for the BBC Urdu service in the days Taliban were the de facto rulers of the region, has been nominated for International Children Peace Price, said Kids Rights, a Holland-based organisation, in a statement.
The 13-year-old girl is the first Pakistani child to be nominated for this award. Including her, five children have been nominated.
Swat was ruled by Taliban led by Maulvi Fazlullah before an army operation cleansed the area in 2009. They had banned girls ‘ education. Nobody dared to speak against the Taliban in those days.
This girl wrote diary with a pseudonym of Gul Makai in those days. She used to write about the brutal acts of the Taliban in her diary. Her writings became so popular that they started getting published in various local and foreign publications.
She says she wants to be a lawyer and politician to serve the country. She also wants to work for orphans through media.
