Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that the Resham Rental Power Plant has failed to fulfill its agreement and ordered the chiefs of PEPCP and Northern Power Generation to immediately recover Rs.4.50 billion, including markup which was given in advance to the plant.
A division bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Khilji Atrif Hussain was hearing the Rental Power Policy case.
The PEPCO lawyer told the court that RS.2.50 billion had been recovered from the RRPP. The CJ ordered all the money including markup be recovered today (Thursday).
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked that the government borrowed money to pay advance to the RPPS but didn’t recovered money. Why shouldn’t we think someone was being benefitted,” he added.
The CJ said that PEPCO was a government entity and it had also admitted irregularities in the rental power projects.
