Cape Town: South Africa defeated Australia by eight wicket here at at Newlands on Friday.
After failing to score good score SA came back very strongly in second inning and achieved the target of 236 runs for the lost of two wicket. Hasim Amla’s 112 and skipper Graeme smith’s 101 not out helped Proteas to reach the target quite comfortably.
Earlier, on Thursday Proteas bowlers spoiled strong Australian batting line up in the second inning and restricted them to score only 47 runs in the second day of Cape Town Test here on Thursday.
Vernon Philander took a five-for in his debut match, while Morne Morkel grabbed three wickets.
A last-wicket stand from Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon avoided Australia beating those unwanted records.
Hosts South Africa had earlier been bowled out for 96 in first innings on a remarkable day two and a reasonable-looking wicket after the visiting side had made 284 runs in their first innings with skipper Michael Clarke’s 151 runs.
