Karachi: The annual expenditure of Patients’ Welfare Association (PWA) has exceeded Rs.49.5 million as presented in the audit report on Thursday, at the 32nd Annual General Body Meeting of the association in Arag Auditorium of Dow Medical College.
Chief Guest of the event was Mr. S. M. Muneer, Chairman Din Group of Industries. The event was also attended by Mr. Siddiq Sheikh, Chairman, Progressive Traders, Mr.Tariq Shafi, a well known philanthropist, Dr. Saeed Quraishy, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Karachi, Mr.Anjum Nisar, ex-President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Ehtashamuddin Chairman Korangi Association of Trade and Industry and many others.
PWA, which is a non governmental, non political organization run by the students of Dow Medical College since 1979, has been providing FREE OF COST health care facilities to the needy patients of Civil Hospital, Karachi.
During the fiscal year June 2010-July 2011, a total of 92,695 screened blood bags were dispatched from the Blood Bank, diagnostic tests of over 54,884 patients were performed at the Diagnostic Lab, 7,597 patients benefited from Drug Bank, 2,056 requests were catered by Thalassemia Services and 2,129 requests were catered by the Follow-up clinics.
The meeting was followed by inauguration of Thalassemia Day Care Center at Civil Hospital Karachi established as a public private partnership project between Government of Sindh and PWA. The center shall be managed by PWA.
