Karachi: Muneer Alam is anguished and enraged as his family celebrations have been spoiled two days before Eid when his debit card was stuck up in the ATM of a commercial bank and he became empty handed with no money in the pocket for shopping of clothes and sacrificial animal.
A 50 year old citizen and father of four kids left his home with his family for shopping cattle market on Saturday but all of his wishes have been died down after he faced an unfortunately incident.
Mr Alam could not retrieve his ATM card as Saturday is off day for commercial bank neither he can have his card for next couple of days as banks will remain closed on the account of Eid vacations.
He must have tried to arrange money from his friends and relatives for Eid expenses but he swore not to use ATM services again in his life particularly from substandard bank which name includes the word standard.
Muzzaffar Hussain, similarly, also suffered inconvenience when he needed cash for Eid’s expenses. When he reached a nearest ATM, which is not really near from him, he saw a notice “ATM is out of order. Sorry for Inconvenience.”
He was infuriated as he was unable to get cash after taking ride of quite long distance and hardly found space for parking his car.
He reached another ATM of Gulshan area, which was told by one of the pedestrians. He was unfortunately not successful because he found ATM running out of cash.
Hussain could not carry out transaction of his own money after spending half an hour but he has to test another banks though he has no other choice left. However, he vented his anger with lots of “harsh words” for banks owners and vowed not to be united with the bank named with word united.
A quite different situation faced by Ghulam Abbas who was in dire need of money for purchasing medicine for his wife. As the medicines were costly he needed more cash for it.
He hurriedly rushed near ATM’s of bank but faced similarly situation as Mr Hussain and got cash after cursing two or three banks and their ATM services.
The banks attract customers throughout the years for selling their services and spend million of rupees on advertisement but they, whether they are national or multinational, disappoint their customers in the time of urgency.
Banks charge too much money of services including hidden charges but customers have to relay on them owing to insecurity and poor law and order situation though some of unfortunately were also victim of money snatching inside ATM booth.
The banks’ regulator is confined to lip-service and utterly fails to improve the system through penalties and punitive actions. The central bank seems a notice-issue building for media but it is least bother to address truly the grievances of masses.
