Karachi: When we talk about the politics in Pakistan, we don’t have examples of tendering resignations over political differences or failures to handle public issues.
But some findings show that around 25 members of the parliament had resigned over the past seven years due to political difference and against the particular decisions taken by the governments.
According to The News Tribe’s investigation report, the first such resignation was tendered by Pakistan Peoples Party’s Zafar Iqbal Warraich on March 9, 2004 prior to joining the Pakistan Muslim League –Q.
Similarly, Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri resigned on October 15, 2004, in protest to the 7-point agenda, which was presented by former president Gen (retd) Parvez Musharraf.
On September 6, 2006, Balochistan National Party’s MNA, Abdur Rauf Mengal quit after killing of former CM Balochistan Akbar Bugti.
While, Sahibzada Haroon-ur-Rasheed, tender his resignation on June 30, 2006 in protest against heavy bombardment in Bajaur’s Madrassah in which around 80 students were martyred.
Dr. Amir Liaquat of MQM resigned on July 4, 2007 on the orders of party chief Altaf Hussain. Around 12 MPs were resigned for taking part in elections of district nazim and some of the members resigned due to fake degrees.
And the latest resignation was presented by PML-Q MNA Marvi Memon against the government policies, corruption and injustice.
Iman Wasim and Arbab Nikaullah vacated their seats in Attock for former prime minister Shaukat Aziz.
