Islamabad: Defence Analyst General (Retd) Talat Masood says that the recent statement of Afghan President Hamid Karzai is the manifestation of the longstanding historical, geographical, cultural and religious bonds the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan are tied in.
During an interview, the renowned analyst said that the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan had very close and historical relations and “if Afghan government has tilt towards India, then the concerns of Pakistan and its people are justified.
He termed the Afghan President announcement to side with Pakistan in case of US attack as a ‘pleasant message’ saying that Karzai tried to dispel the impression that Afghanistan could prefer India over Pakistan.
To a question whether the statement would have any practical impact on the situation of the region, Talat Masood termed the statement a message to India and US that Afghan people and administration consider Pakistan’s security and integrity very important for the security and integrity of Afghanistan. “Though I don’t think US will attack Pakistan or it will be easy for India, but despite that the statement is very important,” he added.
To a question regarding Karzai’s allegations that Quetta Shura was involved in Rabbani’s murder, General Masood said that Karzai did not directly blamed Pakistan or Quetta Shura for the murder. May be the Afghan intelligence might have given any evidence regarding Rabbani’s murder, but he did not blamed Pakistan for the murder.
