Lahore: Former Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has been hired to represent Mumtaz Qadri, self confessed assassin of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer.
Sharif will appear before a bench of the Islamabad Hight Court where Qadri’s deah sentence has been challenged. Qadri was handed down capital punishment by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) set up in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi last week.
Religious parties on Friday observed country-wide strike against the punishment of Malik Mumtaz Qadri, demanding annul of the death sentence.
Qadri, former elite police commando shot down Taseer on January 4 this year.
