Toppers prefer national language for curriculum

Karachi: Female students are more serious than male this is the reason they secure positions in the annual exams. We should focus on our national language rather than Chinese and other language.

We must focus on becoming an educated person and study for this purpose not only to get high marks. These were the words of intermediate students who bagged top slots in result of Commerce (Regular) announced by Board of Intermediate Education Karachi while talking to The News Tribe’s correspondent in Karachi.

Having proved them once again female students clinched the top two positions in Commerce group Annual Examinations-2011 while the 3rd position bagged by the male student.

Asifa Aziz, student of DA Degree College for Women, Phase VIII, DHA and bearing roll number 232733, clinched overall first position by obtaining 939 marks out of total 1100 and 85.36 per cent. Fazilat Zubair from Institute of Business Education with roll number 232571, bagged second position with 937 marks and 85.18 per cent. Muhammad Saim Mumtaz from Commecs Institue of Business and Emerging Sciences bearing roll number 217308, got third position with 925 marks and 84.09 per cent.

Asfia Aziz who begged first position in Commerce (Regular) enthusiastically said that the credit went to her parents and teachers who helped her to achieve this goal. She said that there should be a uniform education system in the country, as it would help in addressing the class difference issue. “I did not take any tuition and usually spent five to six hours on regular basis,” she further said.

The topper was of the view that we should prefer to our national language Urdu rather than Chinese or other languages as it would help in studies. The Chinese have got success in education because they prefer to their national language rather than English or any other language. Our curriculum must have in our national language, she advised.

Replying a question, she claimed that mostly female students solve questions better than the male candidates this is the reason they secure positions in the annual exams.

Fazilat Zubair, who bagged the second position in Commerce (Regular) said that rod-learning would not help students as it was not a long lasting technique. The students should try to get the habit of learning, she advised.

She said that now a days the students taking interests in commerce field beside science, arts and medical and she is already enrolled in CA programme.

Muhammad Saim Mumtaz who secured third position in Commerce (Regular) said, “We must focus on becoming an educated person and study for this purpose not only to get high marks, reputation or grades.”

Mumtaz believes that social issues like division on ethnic and community basis in the society are the major issues and they should be address on priority basis.

Sharing his past experience he said that he completed his O Levels and then enrolled at Board of Intermediate Karachi in Science Faculty. However, I feel that I was not good in that category and then I shift to Commerce, he further said.

Earlier the controller of examinations, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Muhammad Imran Khan Chishti, declared the results of Commerce (Regular), Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC), Part-II, Home Economics HSC Part-I and Diploma in Physical Education, Annual Examinations-2011.

According to the gazette issued, 18, 835 male candidates were registered while 18, 664 students appeared in the annual papers of Commerce (Regular). Of which 9, 329 candidates were declared passed and pass percentage was 49.98 per cent.

The gazette also shows that 14, 114 female students registered and 14, 002 candidates appeared in the exams. As many as 8, 582 students were declared passed and pass percentage was 61.29 per cent.

The Board Officials mentioned that 42 unfair means cases were reported during and after the examinations. The results of such candidates were withhold till final decision approved by the Board of Governors, Chishti said.

At least 33 male candidates received A-One grade, 473 students had A grade and 1, 379 candidates got B grade in the exams, he further said. Meanwhile, 3, 259 students passed their exams with C grade, 3, 786 obtained D grade and 399 candidates passed with E grade, the controller of examinations, BIEK, added.

He mentioned that 58 female students obtained A-One grade, 867 candidates had A grade in their exams. Moreover, 2, 326 students received B grade, 3, 331 candidates passed their exams with C grade and 1, 900 students and 100 candidates had D and E grade respectively, Chishti said.

Meanwhile, Home Economics Part-I results shows that 290 students were registered and 266 candidates appeared in the exams. Of which 126 students passed all seven papers.

Furthermore, 22 candidates were registered for the annual exams of Diploma in Physical Education and 17 were declared passed. The overall pass percentage was 77.27 per cent.
