Islamabad: A top meteorologist in Pakistan has blamed climate change for the unexpectedly harsh monsoon rains in Sindh, a southern province of the country.
Dr Qamaruzzaman Chaudhry said Pakistan was among the countries most affected by the climate change. It is leading to catastrophic situations in the country, he said.
He predicted that Pakistan would continue to face floods and droughts. He said comprehensive planning was required to tackle the problems.
He said before the current rainy spell in Sindh, which began in the second week of August, there had been no rains in the province for 12 months.
He said the rains recorded in Sindh during the last four weeks created a situation that was uncontrollable.
