Karachi: The incidence of dengue has started to grow in Karachi where 7 more suspected patients with symptoms of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever were admitted to various public and private hospitals in the city on Monday, officials said.
On Sunday too, at least 6 persons were admitted to different city hospitals with symptoms of dengue fever while one person, a woman died at a private hospital due to an illness with symptoms similar to dengue fever.
The officials of Provincial Dengue Surveillance Cell, however, did not confirm that the death of the person due to dengue hemorrhagic fever, saying they were still awaiting laboratory reports whether the dengue virus claimed the life.
According to dengue surveillance cell, seven persons in Karachi and one in rest of the Sindh were tested positive for dengue hemorrhagic fever, bringing to total number of people suffered from the viral disease to 185 since start of current year.
According to lab findings, 176 of these 185 persons were tested positive for the viral disease, of them 10 were given mega platelets and one death occurred due to the hemorrhagic fever.

On the other hand, City District Government Karachi (CDGK) at last realized the threat of dengue fever in the city and at a meeting on Monday, DCO Karachi announced to conduct fogging in four towns of the city from Tuesday.
The meeting that was attended by health experts and representatives from World Health Organization (WHO), also decided to carry out insecticides’ spray in areas from where dengue cases were reported.
The meeting also decided to close all public and private swimming pools in the city at least for one month by imposing section 144 and it was decided that all resources would be utilized to eradicate the menace of dengue from the city.
Sindh health department as well as Provincial Dengue Surveillance Cell officials were still not convinced that dengue could become an epidemic in the city despite warnings from health experts and no extraordinary measures were noticed except for compilation of statistics of dengue patients.
Sindh health department officials are claiming to conduct a house-to-house spray to eradicate the vector that breeds on freshwater but nobody knows what would be the modus operandi for this campaign and how the resources would be arranged to carry out such a gigantic task.
They, however, have started asking common people to be aware of the threat of dengue fever, not to let freshwater remained stored in the houses and use mosquito or insect repellents to prevent themselves from dengue fever.
