Islamabad: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated Deputy Superintendent Shahzadi Gulfam on wining the UN International Female Police Peacekeeper Award 2011. Ms. Gulfam is the first Pakistani female to win this prestigious award.
In his felicitation message, the President while congratulating her on winning the prestigious award said that it was also an honor for the women of Pakistan as well as for the country.
Ms. Gulfam was the first Pakistani female to be deployed in the UN Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1997. In 2010, she was redeployed in the UN Mission in Timor-Leste as the UN Police Team leader posted in Timor-Leste National Police Vulnerable Persons Unit in the capital Dili.
The Award for which twelve applications representing female officers from eleven countries serving in the UN peace mission worldwide were submitted, was delivered at the opening ceremony of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) annual training conference on 21 August 2011 in Lexington, Kentucky USA.
The President said that time and again our women have proved that given conducive environment they can excel in any field of human endeavor. The President also said that laurels won by Pakistani women enhanced the country’s image abroad and gave us reason to feel proud. The President wished her success in her professional career and her future life.
