Islamabad: The Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Syed Tahsin Anwar Shah, submitted his resignation to Secretary Establishment on Wednesday after chieh Justice of Pakistan’s direction.
Earlier, The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday submitted all the record of National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam probe in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
All the team members of the FIA team who had previously been probing the case under Additional Director General FIA Zafar Qureshi appeared before the three member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The SC on Tuesday canceled the leaves of the team members after Zafar Qureshi had submitted in the court that member were on leaves and case record was not provided to him.
Meanwhile, DG FIA told the court that he was going to resign as he could not work as a team member to probe the case under his subordinate Zafar Qureshi as per SC orders.
The CJ ordered him not to threaten court, “Go and probe the case”.
It is to mention here that the SC had handed over the NICL probe to Zafar Qureshi. But hurdles have been created to impede the investigation as Qureshi was not allowed entering FIA office Lahore by FIA officials on the pretext of bomb hoax on Saturday.
Counsel for Moonis Elahi, Babar Awan alleged that Zafar Qureshi was unable to conduct an unbiased investigation. He requested the court to replace Qureshi, for he had earlier stated that Moonis was threatening him. The CJP said this request had already been rejected.
The court observed that contempt of court proceeding would be initiated against the officers who would not cooperate in the case. The case was adjourned indefinitely.
