Sarajevo, Bosnia: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said that he does not expect any backlash from the United States if the Palestinians continue to push for statehood.
Speaking to reporters in Sarajevo, Bosnia Tuesday, Abbas said if the US vetoes the bid at the United Nations Security Council in September, Palestinians will still continue cooperating with Washington as they do not want confrontation.
During his visit, Abbas lobbied for Bosnian support. Bosnia is currently a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
Statehood would require approval by the powerful Security Council, where the US has indicated it would veto any Palestinian move in the absence of a negotiated peace deal with Israel.
