Washington: The US Congress Foreign Relations Committee has rejected a bill, seeking to cut financial assistance to Pakistan here on Thursday.
According to reports the bill tabled by the opposition Republican Party was rejected by majority of the lawmakers as only five member of the committee voted in favour of the bill.
The Republican Party urged that the US financial aid should be cut and a tough stance be adopted towards the South Asian Islamic nuclear power as the country was not cooperating in the war against terror.
One of the Republican lawmaker during the discussion on the bill had said on Wednesday that that Pakistan was deceiving the US and considers China its true friend.
He said that the US established bilateral relations with the South Asian country during cold war era. “Now we should enhance strategic relations with India as the cold war has ended” he added.
The US he said should suspend aid to the country as Pakistan was seeking China and Iran’s help.
Another member of the committee while concluding the discussion on whether the US should continue giving aid to Pakistan Howard Berman said stooping Pakistan’s aid would a irresponsible step.He said even India was in foavour of providing Pakistan with the US aid.
