Larkana: The ensuing operation launched by Rangers and Police in Larkana Central Jail against the prisoners has come to an end.
An explosive situation had earlier broken out as prisoners resorted to violent protests at being shifted to other jails. DSP Amin Khoso, DSP Aqeel and another seven police official were injured as police launched an operation to overcome the protests. While the inmates earlier tortured to death the policeman they had taken hostage. Prisoners went on rooftops setting fire to their beddings, demanding prisoners shifted to other jails be brought back or else their protest would continue.
Jail officials with the help of heavy contingents of district police and rangers started the operation against the prisoners. The security forces used tear gas and opened aerial firing to restore order.
5 Police Officials are being held captive by the prisoners. Talks between the prisoners and authorities for the release of captive Police Officials are underway.
The prisoners have come up with three demands. They are demanding an end to operation and stopping shifting of prisoners to other jails. Restoring meetings with their relatives is their third demand.
About 70 prisoners have voluntarily surrendered to the police and rangers. However the riotous situation still persists.
Larkana Central Jail SP, Abdul Ghaffar Dhar said that the prisoners yesterday went on a rampage protesting against the process of some 200 prisoners’ shifting to some other jails.
