Peshawar: At least 23 people were killed and several others injured when US drones fired missiles in Pakistan’s north western tribal region near Afghan border, sources said on Tuesday.
According to sources the unmanned US aircrafts targeted a house in South Waziristan Agency, killing eight and injuring several others. The sources said that 15 other people were killed when a barrage of missiles hit a residential compound and a vehicle in Darre Nishter area of North Waziristan Agency.
The US rely on its drone campaign run by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in haunting alleged militants in Pakistan’s tribal region while the South Asian country has been opposing the drone strikes publicly  saying the attacks prove counter-productive. Security experts say though the Pakistani government denounces the attacks launched by the spy planes, it gave a tacit approval to the US for its campaign.
The US intensified drone attacks after the killing of al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad on May 2. The Pakistani Parliament approved resolution in the joint sitting of the parliament that called for an immediate halt to drone strikes.
