Islamabad: President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday on the proposal of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani appointed four retired judges of the high courts as members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and eight eminent persons as members of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).
The judges who have been appointed as members ECP included Justice (Retd.) Fazal-ur- Rehman (Balochistan), Justice (Retd.) Shahzad Akbar
Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Justice (Retd.) Riaz Kayani (Punjab) and
Justice (Retd.) Muhammad Roshan Essani (Sindh).
The Parliamentary Committee on appointment of Chief Election
Commissioner and Members of the Election Commission in its meeting on
1st June, 2011 have already confirmed the names of these four retired
judges for appointment as members of the ECP.
Those who have been appointed members of the Council of Islamic Ideology
Include Maulana Allama Zubair Ahmed Zaheer (Punjab), Sahabzada Pir
Khalid Sultan Al- Qadir, (Balochistan), Justice (R) Mian Nazir
Akhter, (Punjab) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Naqvi (Punjab), Mufti Muhammad
Iqbal Hussain Shah Faizi (Sindh), Syed Feroze Jamal Shah (KPK),
Justice (Retd.) Mushtaq A. Memon (Sindh) and Qari Muhammad Hanif
Jallandhari (Punjab).
