Karachi: A three member delegation of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) recently visited Bangladesh where they met the management of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Co. Ltd (TGTDCL) of Bangladesh.
The team comprising Nessar Ahmed, Director, SGC’s Board Azim Iqbal Siddiqui, DMD (South) and Zuhair Siddiqui SGM (CS) had detailed discussions with the Titas management about the mechanism it followed for successfully reducing gas transmission losses.
Through these meeting, the SSGC management was able to take some useful pointers that would help it in its strategy for reducing unaccounted for gas (UFG) in SSGC.
TGTDCL informed the visiting SSGC delegation that it reduced UFG from 8.3 per cent of the total gas supply mechanism for cutting line losses, to
a negative 2.14 percent. The gas company has disconnected hundreds of unauthorized gas connection in its drive to discourage gas pilferage during the last three years.
TGTDCL with a 74.2 per cent market share in Bangladesh has over 1556 million customers and sold 14962 mmcfd has worth63.79 billon take during 2009.10.
The company is selling gas to 34 power generation companies (11 of them are state owned), four fertilizer unites ,4557 industrial concerns, 329 CNG stations and 1043 captive power units.
SSGC is implementing Natural Gas Efficiency project with the assistance of $200 million loan from the world bank to during down UFG.
