Quetta: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan raised the issue of drone attacks with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and apprised her to respect the joint resolution of the Pakistani parliament during her recent visit to the country.
While talking to media here he said that the government urged the US for transfer of drone technology. The prime minister said the US confirmed the death of al-Qaeda commander Ilyas Kashmiri was killed in drone attack on South Waziristan. He added that Pakistan was in sate of war and terrorism would take time to be eliminated. “We will resolve the issue of drone strikes through diplomatic channels” Gilani said .
While talking about grievances of Balochistan he said he had come there to review the law and order situation, adding that the government provided 5000 jobs to the people of Balochistan.
Gilani said that next meeting of the federal cabinet would be held in the province while he also directed cabinet members to enhance their presence in the province.
Replying to query about missing persons he said the matter was subjudice while the government extended its cooperation to the court in this regard. “Only 38 people are missing in the province and the law enforcement agencies were trying to recover them” he added.
The prime minister said that army was replaced by the Frontier Constabulary on the demands of the local people.
To a question he said security of journalists was the government’s first priority. “ Musharraf imposed sanctions on the media and the judiciary” he added.
